Repiering Houses:

The core Business Activity is repiering foundations either Strip or Isolated -

Isolated:

  • Must measure up to Australian Standards specifications
  • Dig hole by hand OR by small machine where it can be manoeuvred
  • Make up concrete in mixer , then transport to hole, fill hole and allow to harden
  • Build brick pier or place ready made cement pier on top of footing
  • Let cure and then lower building

Strip:

  • Measure up to Australian Standards specifications
  • Dig the trench to specifications
  • Place steel reinforcement into trench - to specifications
  • Large quantity of concrete (usually delivered by truck) is poured into trench
  • Brick wall is built on top of the footing

Such work may be required for a variety of reasons for example many original home foundations consisted of wooden piers in the older parts of the Hunter Valley or they could be fire ash piers which were built during the Depression, all of which did not have any footings, which allowed the buildings to move due to settlement, and they deteriorated over time. Original piers have deteriorated because of poor building techniques in the past and a lack of Australian Standards, to which all buildings must comply.

House Raising:

This activity relates to raising houses as a whole, so that home owners may extend the building by means of extending underneath, or examples would be people putting in a garage or sunken lounge room, or storage facilities. Home owners wishing to relocate their home to another area, we can arrange to have the house lifted up to a significant level to allow the appropriate transportation to remove the existing home to a new area.

House Leveling:

House leveling refers to the raising of portions of the foundations that may have sunk due to soil deterioration, in one particular area, under the house. eg Water may have pooled under a particular section of the house, unable to drain away. This leads to a particular area becoming extremely "wet" and the combined weight of house and foundations, causes the house to "sink" further into the ground than was originally intended. The problem is reflected internally when home owners have problems with sticking doors; doors which cannot be locked properly; door ways out of alignment or uneven floors.

Underpinning:

Underpinning is the supporting of brick buildings constructed on a slab, that have sunk for various reasons. It consists of drilling under the slab, and the pouring of additional supports in designated areas. The largest work ever undertaken to date, is a three story block of units at Cooks Hill, Newcastle because initially the building was constructed on fill, and it required excavation to the depth of 5 metres to reach the natural ground. Previously drilling was subcontracted under the direct supervision of AAA Down Under Pier Replacement, however this role is now fulfilled by Down Under Earthmoving & Civil Construction.
